Our Teachers

Mandy Bailey (Principal & Teacher) A.I.S.T.D.

Mandy started dancing at 3 years and has never stopped. Trained at The Jeannine Greville Dance Academy, Oxfordshire, she studied and gained her major exams in Modern, Tap, Drama and Ballet. From 1987 to 2001, Mandy continued to teach for Jeannine in 5 of the 8 branches in Berks, Bucks and Oxon.

Moving to Devon in 2001, Mandy taught at the Gaynor Walter School of Dance in Newton Abbot and the  Deborah Bond Dance Academy in Ivybridge, Plymouth and Saltash.

FOOTsteps was created in 2004 with 4 classes on a Tuesday night in Okehampton.  The school now runs classes every night of the week with the help of 3 Fabulous teachers in Okehampton..

Training never stops for a teacher and Mandy gained her Zumba licence in 2011, holds a Pirouette Studio Licence from 2017, qualified as an Acrobatic Arts Instructor in 2018 and recently added Dancing Memories to her portfolio.  She also loves to regularly attend ISTD Courses, keeping her up to date with technique, new trends, fitness and colleagues. 

Clare Saunders (Teacher)

Clare Saunders trained at the Gaynor Walter School of Dance , as a student then returned after University to complete her teaching qualifications.  Clare started teaching in 2004 at the Deborah Bond Dance Academy based in Newton Abbot.

In 2010 the branch of the school she taught was bought by the Fox King Dance Academy and Clare continued to teach there until 2012.  She has also set up her own Dance School in Moretonhampstead called “A Chance to Dance”.

Clare is qualified to teach ballet, tap, modern and jazz and has taught all disciplines during her time teaching.  Clare is very excited to be teaching for FOOTsteps and is in charge of the Ballet Syllabus on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings, plus some Modern, Tap and Jazz.

Chloe Dennis (Teacher)

Chloe started dancing at the age of three at Exeter School of Dance until becoming a very own FOOTsteps student taught by Mandy in 2005. Chloe gained jazz exams here at FOOTsteps before moving onto Charles Academy of Dance where she went on to complete major exams in Modern, Tap and RAD ballet. During her time at Charles Academy of Dance she was a member of the intensive company team competing at festivals across the country including reaching All England national finals. 

Chloe then joined Deborah Bond Dance Academy in 2012 where she gained her teaching qualifications in modern, jazz and tap.

After completing these qualifications Chloe took some time out of dancing to travel and plan her wedding, before returning back to her love of dance to join the teaching faculty at FOOTsteps in 2015.

Sonja Lincoln (Teacher) 

Sonja was trained in Cheltenham by Mrs Janet Marshall,one of the I.S.T.D’s major examiners, and performed in many professional shows and pantomimes in the local area whilst growing up.

As a teenager she attended the Gloucestershire Academy of Performing Arts, studying Dance, Drama, and Music where Sonja was selected for a special performance at the Royal College of Music.

 In 2001 she graduated from Liverpool J.M. University, gaining a BA Hons Degree in Dance and Drama and a Professional Diploma in Jazz Dance, before moving down to Devon and obtaining her qualifications as a dance teacher in I.S.T.D Tap, Modern Theatre and Classical Ballet.

 More recently, Sonja returned to college in London to study for a Contemporary Music and Singing Diploma at Vocaltech Vocal School, where she graduated top of her class and was awarded Best Live Performer of the Year 2003.

As well as teaching dance, drama, and singing, Sonja currently fronts an eight piece soul band, in and around the South West as well as being a regular guest vocalist with the Plymouth Co-Operative Big Band.

Since September 2010, Sonja has been sharing her love for everything musical by teaching for the Monkey Music Exeter franchise, providing music and movement classes for babies and young children.
